What is the Gymnaestrada Team?
New this season is our Gymnaestrada Team, Lux. This team will be comprised gymnasts in a range of age and skill levels, and all gymnasts will work together to create beautiful story-style routines to present at various events across the province.
Adamo prides itself in creating high quality routines, and story routines are what we do best! Story-style routines allow gymnasts to take on the role of characters, emotions, and to embody a theme or story through their gymnastics movements. Story routines present a unique story, or a twist to a well-known one, to audiences through a variety of rhythmic and non-rhythmic apparatus. They are a great way to allow gymnasts of all ages and skill levels to work together and be able to express and convey their message.
In addition to our regular Adamo performances and Northern Gala, our Lux team will prepare for the Provincial Gymnaestrada (which Adamo hopes to host!), and will also attend a gymnaestrada event in Albert! Next year we will then prepare to attend the Canadian Gymnaestrada (location TBA). Gymnaestradas are awesome experiences for gymnasts to attend, and include workshops, opportunities to meet and watch other teams, and of course, opportunities to share their routines and love for gymnastics. Canadian Gymnaestrada takes place every 4 years in a different Canadian city, and is typically near the July 1st holiday. It is always a fantastic trip, and we are so excited to be preparing for it already!
This team will also help prepare gymnasts for auditions for Team Saskatchewan Gymnaestrada at the end of the 2016-17 season. TSG athletes will prepare for two seasons (2017-18 and 2018-19) for the Canadian and World Gymnaestradas. In order to participate in the World Gymnaestrada in 2019 in Dornbirn, Austria, gymnasts are required to be 13 years of age in 2019 (though some accommodations may be considered). TSG is an auditioned program, and requires a great deal of commitment to monthly TSG training camps, in addition to regular Adamo practices. While TSG and World Gymnaestradas are a wonderful goal to aspire to, keep in mind that you’re never too old to attend! This means, that even though many gymnasts might not be old enough, or have the skills required to make the TSG team yet, it doesn’t mean they won’t be able to attend the next one! The Lux team will help all gymnasts who are interested in pursuing TSG in achieving their goals.
While taking part of a second program in Adamo is not required this season, it is very strongly encouraged. Participating in two programs will assist gymnasts in continuing to improve their rhythmic gymnastics skills, strengthening their dedication to their training, and pursuing their goals to attend the Canadian and perhaps World Gymnaestradas.
Our previous Gymnaestrada team, Arbor Vitae, had tremendous success at the 2014 Canadian Gymnaestrada in Calgary, and we hope that our Lux team will be even better!
